About Us

Submit to Cantarabooks

At the moment we are open only to unsolicited submissions of novellas, story collections or essays 20-30,000 words for our ebook series of new writing in English.

Authors with shorter work, please go to Cantaraville.

For media inquiries, call 646.452.2867 (NY), 323.898.3449 (LA) or fax 866.365.4874.

Find our titles here.

Send entire manuscript. Submissions must be sent by email and be in .doc, .rtf or .txt file attachment, single-spaced, in 12 pt. Times New Roman or Arial font. Optional in format: 1" margin all around, footed page numbers, either justified left margin or fully-justified margins. Don't make yourself crazy, just send us a readable manuscript. And make sure it's free of typos. (The main turn-off of our Executive Editor is the use of the contraction "it's" for the possessive "its.")

Translations are welcome. No other length or literary forms other than those listed above will be read or considered.

Hard copy submissions will not be considered and will be immediately discarded.

In the body of your email include your full name, your pen name (if any), phone number, street address, website URL (if any), a one-paragraph description of your work, and the word count.

Cantarabooks is a boutique small press that offers attractive terms for authors at any stage of their careers. We offer the same royalty percentage as the best of other small presses, but unlike many of them we ask only for two-year rights (renewable) to publish in the forms outlined in our Agreements, either in paperback or ebook.

After sales of 125 direct-from-publisher downloads, our ebook authors are automatically offered our Agreement to publish their work in paperback.

Submit your manuscript for consideration to Senior Editor, Michael Matheny, at cantarabooks@gmail.com. Receipt of your submission will be acknowledged right away and we'll try to get back to you with an answer within two months.

Cantarabooks is modeled, editorially, after Hogarth Press, which was founded in 1917 by authors Leonard and Virginia Woolf.

Lastly, if you're not already on it, we'll be putting you on the mailing list of our newsletter to keep you informed of our press's needs and developments. Cantarabooks LLC is a member of the esteemed New York Center for Independent Publishing (NYCIP) and the venerable Council of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP).
